Memorial days are counted from the day of death, and the day of death counts as the first. That's where the most common mistake comes from: counting from the funeral moves the date a day or two later. The calculator below follows this rule; the parish priest confirms the exact date of the service.

How the 40 days are counted
The forty days are counted from the day of death, not from the funeral, and the day of death is the first. If someone died on 1 March, the fortieth day is 9 April.
The other day-based memorials are counted the same way: the third day is the date of death plus two, the ninth plus eight. Months and years are calendar ones: six months from 1 March is 1 September.
The memorial days, one by one
At 3 days — usually the day of the funeral. At 9 days — a smaller memorial with close family.
At 40 days — the largest memorial meal after the funeral; almost everyone who came to the funeral comes back.
At 6 months and at one year — smaller meals, then the memorial is held year after year, up to seven years. After that, those who wish remember the person at Moși and on the Saturdays of the dead.
If the date falls on a day without services
If the day falls at a time when services can't be held, the memorial is moved to the Saturday before, as with all memorial days. The calculator shows the weekday precisely so you can see this in advance.
When to order the meal and packages
For the memorial meal, colivă, colaci and packages, let us know at least 10 days ahead. For each memorial date, the calculator shows the last day you can still order.
We only work in the Iași area. The meal can be held with us in Tomești, in the hall for up to 45 people, or we cook it and deliver it wherever you hold it — at home or in another hall. The full menu starts at 45 lei per person, and delivery is included within the city of Iași.
