6-month memorial meal menu
A smaller gathering than at forty days, usually just close family and those who were nearby.
At six months fewer people come and the meal is quieter. That doesn't mean it's done with less care — only on a different scale. A shorter menu, a smaller room, the same attention.
A smaller gathering
Usually between ten and twenty people. The room is arranged to match, so everyone sits at one table rather than scattered.
A shorter menu
A more restrained menu than at forty days works well: starter, soup, one main course, colivă and colaci.
At least 10 days' notice
The notice is the same as for any gathering held with us, even though this one is smaller. Call us and we will tell you whether the day is free.
What changes from forty days
At six months far fewer people come. Where at forty days even those who missed the funeral gather, at six months it's usually close family and a few neighbours — between ten and twenty people, in most cases.
The tone changes too. It's no longer the large gathering after the funeral but a quiet meal, at which people stay a shorter time. That doesn't mean it's done with less care — it means a different scale: a shorter menu, a more tightly arranged room, the same attention in the kitchen.
How the day is counted
Six calendar months are counted from the day of death. If that day falls when services can't be held, the memorial moves to the Saturday before, as at every interval.
As with any memorial, the final date comes from the priest holding the service. Call us with that one, not with your own calculation.
A shorter menu
For a meal of ten to twenty people, a five-course menu is too much — half of it is left. What's usually done: a starter, soup, a single main course, colivă, colaci and a simple dessert.
The pattern stays whole, only the number of courses drops. Colivă and colaci are never removed, however small the meal.
Frequently asked
What families ask us
Is it worth booking the room for so few people?
Yes, we use it for ten as well. It's arranged around one shared table, not spread across the room — at a small memorial, people need to sit together, not at separate tables.
How far in advance should I let you know?
At least 10 days, as for any gathering held with us. A smaller meal does not shorten the time needed to buy produce — it is bought fresh, not taken out of a freezer.
Is colivă made at six months too?
Yes. Colivă and colaci are made at every memorial, whatever the interval and however many people there are.
Can I keep the same menu as at forty days?
You can, but usually not all of it is needed. We'll propose a shorter version and you cut or add from there.
